SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Iowa State's doubles pairing of Miska Kadleckova and Sofia Cabezas rallied to advance to the round of 16 Thursday at the ITA Fall National Championships.
Kadleckova and Cabezas dropped their opening set against Alabama's Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser before rallying to win. Bencheikh and Hiser opened with a 6-4 win in the first, but the Cyclone duo won 7-6 in the second to force a third-set tiebreaker. The ISU pair took that set 1-0 (4) to advance to face Texas' Kylie Collins and Charlotte Chavitipon Friday.
ISU's Thasaporn Naklo and Christin Hsieh fell in their round of 32 match to the North Carolina doubles team of Cameron Morra and Carson Tanguilig, 6-3, 7-5. They'll face Northwestern's Hannah McColgan and Sydney Pratt in the consolation bracket.
In singles action, Naklo dropped the first set to Tennessee's Rebeka Mertena, 6-2, but rallied to even things up with a 6-4 win in the second set. The third set ended in a tiebreak and Mertena held off Naklo, 7-6 (2), to advance.
