Shorthanded Cyclones Fall To Missouri, 4-1

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Iowa State tennis team dropped its first match of the season, falling 4-1 Sunday afternoon to Missouri. The Cyclones fall to 7-1, while Missouri improves to 11-3.
The Cyclones were shorthanded with No. 2 singles player Maty Cancini sitting out due to injury.
Without Cancini, the Cyclones battled despite most of the lineup playing up a slot. ISU dropped three three-set matches in singles despite the lineup adjustment.
In doubles action, Christin Hsieh and Sofia Cabezas beat Ellie Wright and Elys Ventura, 6-3, but that was it for the Cyclones as Missouri earned the point with a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles and a 7-6 win in the No. 3 position.
Freshman Miska Kadleckova dominated her singles match to improve to 8-0 in singles play this season. Playing up at No. 3 singles, Kadleckova earned a 6-0, 6-1 win against Valentina Vazquez to tie the match at 1-1.
Missouri then won at No. 1 singles as Bronte Murgett rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over Iowa State's Thasaporn Naklo. Christin Hsieh moved up to No. 2 singles and fell in three sets to Missouri's Wright, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 as the Tigers went up 3-1.
Chie Kezuka battled valiantly but fell to Missouri's Marta Oliveira, 6-2, 0-6, 4-6 as the Tigers clinched the match.
The Cyclones return to action on Saturday, Feb. 27 in a rare non-conference matchup at Kansas.
