De Jesus Named Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week

AMES, Iowa – A school record-breaking performance on Sunday afternoon saw Addy De Jesus earn Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for a second time this season, the league announced Tuesday morning. De Jesus now has four Big 12 weekly awards on the season, with her two Newcomer awards being joined by two Gymnast of the Week honors.

On Sunday against No. 1 Oklahoma, De Jesus shined, posting an all-around score of 39.600 to lead the Cyclones to a Jay Ronayne Era record team score of 196.825. De Jesus' mark tied ISU's school record in the all-around, marking the fifth time an ISU gymnast has gotten an all-around of 39.600.

The highlight of De Jesus' Sunday performances was a career-best 9.925 on the balance beam, the final event in which the Greenwich, Connecticut native had not gone above 9.9 this season. She is the fourth gymnast in Iowa State history to score 9.9 or higher on all four events in a single season.

De Jesus and the Cyclones will be back in action at the Big 12 Gymnastics Championship this Saturday, hosted by West Virginia. Competition begins at 1 p.m. Central, with ESPN2 broadcasting the competition.
