AMES, Iowa - The No. 43 Iowa State tennis team will face a pair of ranked opponents this weekend as No. 30 Texas Tech and No. 41 TCU travel to Ames for Big 12 Conference showdowns. That will make it four consecutive matches against ranked opponents for Iowa State.
THE SCHEDULE
Friday, Mar. 19 - 3:00 p.m.
No. 30 Texas Tech (10-3, 3-0) vs. No. 43 Iowa State (8-4, 0-2)
Sunday, Mar. 21 - 10:00 a.m.
No. 41 TCU (8-5, 2-1) vs. No. 43 Iowa State (8-4, 0-2)
Matches will be played outdoors at the Forker Tennis Courts in Ames. If inclement weather occurs, matches will be moved to Ames Racquet & Fitness Center - South. EDITOR's NOTE: Sunday's match will be played at Ames Racquet & Fitness South location.
THE SERIES
The Cyclones will be looking for their first-ever victory over the Red Raiders. Iowa State is winless in 28 all-time matches against Texas Tech and 0-10 at home. The last time the two teams played, the Cyclones fell, 6-1, in Lubbock.
Iowa State will also be seeking its first win in the all-time series against TCU. The Horned Frogs own a 7-0 record versus the Cyclones and are 4-0 in Ames. In their last matchup, Iowa State lost to TCU, 5-2, on the road.
HOME SWEET HOME
This weekend, Iowa State will be playing its first home match in over a month and a half. The last time the Cyclones were at home, they beat North Dakota, 7-0, back on Jan. 30.
Over the past two seasons, Iowa State has been dominant on their home courts. They're currently riding a 13-match winning streak which dates back to the 2018-2019 season. Its last loss was to a No. 6-ranked Texas squad on Apr. 12, 2019.
Since then, the Cyclones have made history at home, including earning their first-ever win against Baylor and beating Iowa for the first time in 44 years on their way to 13 straight wins.
