AMES, Iowa – Another 4-3 thriller. Another Iowa State victory.
The No. 43 Cyclones earned their second win over a ranked opponent this weekend, this time outlasting No. 41 TCU for the 4-3 win Sunday at Ames Racquet and Fitness to improve to 10-4 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 action. TCU falls to 9-6 overall and 3-2 in conference action.
Iowa State, which beat No. 30 Texas Tech for the first-time ever on Friday, earned the program's first win against TCU in eight tries.
The Cyclones took the doubles point behind 6-2 victories at No. 1 and No. 3 to go ahead 1-0.
TCU clawed back and eventually went up 3-2 in the match, with Miska Kadleckova providing the second point for the Cyclones with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles against the Horned Frogs' Isabel Pascual.
Freshman Sofia Cabezas evened the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over Margaret Polk.
That left it to Chie Kezuka, who battled TCU's Addy Guevara on her way to a 7-5 win in the first set before cruising to a 6-2 second-set victory to secure the Cyclone win.
The Cyclones host Kansas State on Friday at 4 p.m. in their next outing.
