AMES, Iowa - The No. 33-ranked Iowa State tennis team concludes its four-match homestand this weekend as Big 12 rivals Kansas State and Kansas visit Ames.
THE SCHEDULE
Friday, Mar. 26 - 3:00 p.m.
Kansas State (5-5, 0-2) vs. No. 33 Iowa State (10-4, 2-2)
Sunday, Mar. 28 - 11:30 a.m.
No. 44 Kansas (6-6, 0-2) vs. No. 33 Iowa State (10-4, 2-2)
Matches are scheduled to be played outdoors at the Forker Tennis Courts. If inclement weather occurs, matches will be moved to Ames Racquet & Fitness Center - South, and start times may change.
SENIOR DAY
The Cyclones will celebrate the career of senior Maty Cancini prior to Sunday's match.
CANCINI NEARING HISTORY
Cancini has 85 career doubles victories and is closing in on the school record of 86, which is held by Annabella Bonadonna. Cancini is also just two shy of the overall career wins with 157 in her career, trailing only Bonadonna (159) and Kathy Reisinger (158).
THE SERIES
Kansas State and Iowa State have an all-time series dating back to 1979. The Wildcats own a 34-13 record over the Cyclones during that span. Iowa State's home record against K-State is 6-14, including the Cyclones' last win in the series, a 4-2 victory in Ames in 2012.
This is the second meeting of the season for the Cyclones and Jayhawks. In the first match, Kansas came away with a close 4-3 win against an Iowa State team playing without No. 2 singles player Maty Cancini. The win improved the Jayhawks' all-time record versus the Cyclones to 47-4. Iowa State will be playing for its first win over KU since a 6-1 victory in Ames in 2012.
CYCLONES MOVING UP
Following two wins against ranked teams last weekend, Iowa State moved up to No. 33 in the latest Oracle/ITA Division l Women's Rankings. It's the highest rank in program history, besting the previous record of No. 41, set earlier this year.
The Cyclones have now been ranked in the top-50 for four consecutive weeks, another school record. Before last season, Iowa State had never been ranked in the top-50.
Thasaporn Naklo and Miska Kadleckova became just the second pairing in program history to be ranked in the ITA/Oracle Division l Double's Rankings, coming in at No. 73. They own the team's best record in dual play at 10-3, including a ranked win in their favor. This is the second time Naklo has been a part of a ranked pairing. She and Christin Hsieh earned the program's first doubles ranking last year.
