DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa State tennis team notched its eighth win of the season on Saturday by beating Drake, 6-1, on the road. The victory extends the Cyclones' winning streak over the Bulldogs to five matches in a row.
No. 41-ranked Iowa State improves to 8-2 on the season while Drake falls to 4-4.
The Cyclones earned the doubles point by securing wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. Miska Kadleckova and Thasaporn Naklo knocked off Liza Petushkova and Maria Tatarnikova, 7-5, in the top slot to win their eighth match of the season together. Ellie Murphy, who once again filled in for the injured Maty Cancini, teamed up with Ting-Pei Chang and defeated the Stephani/Stepan pairing from Drake, 6-3.
The Cyclones continued to roll in singles despite everyone except Naklo playing up one slot with Cancini out. Kadleckova and Sofia Cabezas remained undefeated as both players downed their opponents in straight sets. They pushed their singles records to 10-0 and 8-0, respectively. Naklo picked up her eighth win of the season on the No. 1 court as she quickly beat Petushkova 6-2, 6-2. Christin Hsieh won on court two while Chie Kezuka secured the Cyclones final victory in the fourth slot.
Iowa State will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Texas for a pair of matches against Baylor and Texas.
