Hillary Bor inched closer to punching his ticket to Tokyo with a strong performance in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase semifinals on Monday evening. The former Cyclone All-American (2007-11) looked to be in control and was near the head of the race throughout the first heat. Bor and competitor Isaac Updike pulled away from the rest of the lead pack late to comfortably secure a bid to Friday night's final. One of 14 runners to advance to the final, Bor will need a top-three finish to earn a bid to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. The men's 3,000 meter steeplechase final is Friday at 6:42 p.m. CT on NBCSN.
Daniel Nixon closed out a phenomenal weekend with his finest performance in Eugene. The Cyclone senior was one of just three collegians to advance to Monday night's final, and he rose to the occasion. Vlad Pavlenko's outstanding weekend in Eugene continued with yet another strong performance in the finals of the men's hammer throw. The Cyclone senior was one of just three collegians to advance to the finals, and proved he belongs among the nation's best. A phenomenal second throw of 230-0 (70.10m) vaulted Pavlenko up the standings. The native of Arlington Heights, Ill., was in eighth place thanks to that throw after three rounds, allowing him to earn a spot in the final three flights - clinching the final spot by an inch. It would prove to be the ISU school record holder's best throw of the day, as Pavlenko finished eighth in the nation, and second among collegians.

Daniel Nixon will get his run at the Olympic Games on Monday night as the Cyclone senior advanced to the final of the men's 800-meter run on Saturday night. Running in the second semifinal, Nixon once again kept himself near the front of the race and gave himself a chance down the homestretch. He rallied in the final meters to try and overcome USC's national champ Isaiah Jewett, but took fourth in 1:46.21, which was good enough to advance to Monday's final on time. It is the second-best run of Nixon's career, just behind his personal best of 1:46.15 from Friday night.
Scott Fuchs capped his two-year stay in Ames by competing in the javelin on Saturday. The senior, who finished ninth and earned Second Team All-America honors at the same venue last week at the NCAA Championships, finished 18th on the day, as his first throw was his best throw of the day at 212-10 (64.89m).Â
Festus Lagat wrapped up his season with a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run Saturday at the Kenya Athletics Olympic Trials in Nairobi. Lagat, a five-time All-American and ISU's school record holder in the outdoor 800, was able to work his way to the front of the pack on the first lap, and was able to hang with the leaders heading into the final turn before settling to his final position of fifth on the home-stretch.

Vlad Pavlenko earned three more throws in the men's hammer throw with his ninth place finish in the qualifying round of the men's hammer throw. Fresh off his fourth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at the same site last Wednesday, Pavlenko opened up with solid first two throws of 227-7 (69.38m) and 226-2 (68.94m), but was able to save his best for last, as he unloaded a crucial thrd effort of 233-3 (71.10m) to move up to fourth after Flight 1, which proved to be enough after the second flight went throw. The third throw by ISU's school record was the difference, as Pavlenko's first throw would have left him in 13th place and out of Sunday's final had that been his best effort of the day.
In the men's 800-meter run, Daniel Nixon earned a trip to tomorrow's semifinals with a huge First Round personal best of 1:46.15. With plenty of elite runners to measure himself with, including 2019 World Champion Donavan Brazier and previous Team USA members Isaiah Harris and Erik Sowinski among others, Nixon was able to keep with the pace early and brought home the best mark of his career. Though he had to wait to see if he made it to Saturday on time, he did so with room to spare. Nixon's mark also moved him up from No. 8 to No. 3 in ISU outdoor 800m history.
Also running for Iowa State on Friday in the 800m was Roshon Roomes (28th, 1:50.55) and Jason Gomez (32nd, 1:55.73).
Nixon will run in the semifinals on Saturday at 9:04 p.m. Central, which will be televised on NBC.
Pavlenko, who was one of three collegians to advance and the best among the trio, will throw in the final of the men's weight throw on Sunday at 6:25 p.m. Central, and once again it will be streamed on NBCOlympics.com, here.
