AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (2-0) wrapped up an undefeated Cyclone Challenge with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-19) win over Omaha (0-1) Saturday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclone offense stepped up, hitting .388 as a team, while the defense was strong again to hold UNO to .117 hitting on the day.
Leading the way was Annie Hatch, who got 13 kills at .440 hitting. Brooke Andersen and Candelaria Herrera got eight kills each. Marija Popovic guided the back row with 17 digs.
Set One: Iowa State 25 Omaha 11
An early 5-0 run put ISU up 6-1 in a set that it totally dominated. The Cyclone offense hit .538 as a team, with setter Jaden Newsome calling her own number three times for three kills, while also dishing out four kills to Brooke Andersen. The Cyclone serve fired five aces, led by Candelaria Herrera's three in the frame, as ISU got the first wrapped up on a Marriah Buss attack error at 25-11.
Set Two: Iowa State 25 Omaha 16
The Cyclones and Mavs were locked in a tight battle early before the Cyclones finally broke out on a 5-0 run, powered by a pair of Herrera kills to get ahead 14-8. While the ISU offense 'slowed down' to a .353 hitting percentage for the set, the Cyclone defense stepped its game up by holding UNO to .023 hitting on the set, with Herrera contributing to a trio of blocks for ISU in the set. Annie Hatch killed to wrap up the second for Iowa State at 25-16.
Set Three: Iowa State 25 Omaha 19
Omaha was up for the battle in the third set, bringing back an early Iowa State lead to tie the set at 11-11 on a kill from Rachel Fairbanks. However, the Cyclones never allowed the Mavs to get ahead, going on a 3-0 run via a pair of Hatch kills to pull ahead 14-11. The Cyclone junior was the star of the final frame, as Hatch got seven of her match-high 13 kills in the final frame. She wrapped up the match for Iowa State with back-to-back kills at 25-19.

Annie Hatch. The Mesa, Arizona native was strong in attack for the Cyclones, getting her match-high 13 kills at a .440 hitting percentage. Her day included seven kills in the third and final frame for ISU.
