AMES, Iowa – Iowa State has a midweek bye before traveling to face Houston Sunday in week five of Big 12 play. ISU enters the match following a tough five-set win vs. Utah, a team that continues to receive votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

By the Numbers
1 – Rachel Van Gorp is the first in Iowa State history to earn a spot on the AVCA Player of the Year Watch List. Van Gorp is also the one and only libero on the Big 12 Preseason Team.
3 – Christy Johnson-Lynch ranks No. 3 all time in Big 12 history with 225 league victories.
7 – Pam McCune had the seventh-highest hitting percentage in program history vs. TAMUCC, hitting 12 kills at 0.733.

The 2026 Cyclones
Rachel Van Gorp has now earned back-to-back Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week awards and four total this season. Van Gorp continues to be the one and only libero to earn multiple defensive honors this season, and is the lone player to earn four. It is her sixth total, while just four other Cyclones have earned as many.
Mesaiya Bettis led ISU last week with 27 kills, and has hit in double figures for three-straight matches. Bettis had a monster match in the win vs. Utah of 12 digs, 11 kills and five blocks (three solo, two assists). It was the first double-double of her career.
Nayeli Gonzalez (3.38 per set) and Nayeli Ti'a (2.97 per set) lead ISU this season in kills. Ti'a nears her 1,000th kill with 967.
The Opponent
Iowa State and Houston last met Nov. 13, 2025 in Houston, where ISU won in four sets (18-25, 32-30, 25-21, 25-20). Iowa State has won two of three meetings at Houston. This season in Big 12 play, Houston has wins over Kansas State, Cincinnati, West Virginia and Texas Tech. Houston's Sydney Jones ranks 10th nationally averaging 4.53 kills per set and has totaled 290 this season.
Iowa State and Houston will also meet later this season Wednesday, Nov. 25 in ISU's home finale.
