AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (10-6, 4-1 Big 12) swept Kansas State (9-4, 1-4 Big 12) by set scores of 25-20, 25-15, 25-18 Friday night.
The Cyclones led the whole way and hit at .344 on the night, ISU's third match this season hitting over .300.
Nayeli Gonzalez hit her first six kills perfect, and went on to seal her seventh match in a frow with double digit kills hitting a match-leading 14 at a clip of .500 on the night.
Rachel Van Gorp led ISU with 15 digs through the three sets. Ella Florez, making the start at setter, had a career-high 30 assists and came one dig shy of a double-double.
SET ONE
Gonzalez started hot putting down her fifth kill on as many swings to make the score 8-6 with the Cyclones ahead. After K-State tied it at 9s, Gonzalez then remained without a miss with six kills while keeping ISU in front. ISU would reach the media timeout up 15-11 and went on to build a five-point lead of 18-13 following two Wildcat errors. A block by Reagan Hanfelt and Nayeli Ti'a tallied ISU's 20th point (20-15) and Iowa State went on to win the first 25-20 hitting at .394.
SET TWO
Iowa State kept KSU scoreless through three points and would reach 10 points ahead by six. ISU went on a run of four to reach the media timeout at 15-7, and the run extended to five on a Hanfelt kill. Iowa State continued to roll, growing its lead to double digits at 20-10. Iowa State would win its second challenge of the match to make the score 23-14 and pressed on to take the set at 25-15.
SET THREE
Gonzalez remained unstoppable putting down her 11th kill for the first point of the set. Iowa State won a long rally after K-State threatened to tie things at 9s as Gonzalez had yet another kill. Moments later a big block by Pam McCune brought the Cyclones in front by four (15-11), while K-State continued to battle coming back within three at 19-16. Two KSU errors followed to force a timeout by the visitors, and ISU continued on to seal the sweep at 25-18.
