LINCOLN, Nebraska – Iowa State returned to the track for the first time in 2022 at the Graduate Classic at Nebraska on Friday. The Cyclones strung together some strong performances at the Devaney Center, with good signs ahead for the rest of the weekend and season.
ISU racked up four third-place finishes on the day, highlighted by the effort in the men's mile with four Cyclones finishing in the top-7 and all running to indoor personal bests. The Cyclone effort in the mile was led by cross country All-American Thomas Pollard, who kicked off his track season with a 4:11.57. He was followed by Quinton Orr in fourth (4:12.12), Gable Sieperda in fifth (4:12.77) and Nate Mueller in seventh (4:16.49).
Chad Johnson got his track season started with a third-place finish in the 1,000-meter run in 2:26.21, while Frank Hayes took third in the 400-meter dash in 49.60.
For the Iowa State women, Sydney Willits was third in the qualifying rounds of the 60-meter hurdles, advancing to tomorrow's prelims with a 9.02 to take third.
In the women's weight throw, all three Cyclones had strong performances. Antonella Creazzola led the ISU effort, with the Venezuelan taking fifth with a best throw of 58-9 1/4 (17.91m). Behind her a pair of Cyclones got personal bests, with Danielle Hoyle continuing to impress in her freshman campaign with a 58-6 3/4 (17.85m) to take sixth, and Emily March going 57-3 (17.45m) to finish seventh.

Iowa State is back in action at the Graduate Classic tomorrow, with running events beginning at 11 a.m., and ISU's lone field event (the men's shot put) going at 2:15 p.m.
