DES MOINES, Iowa – No. 23 Iowa State (0-2, 0-0 Big 12) fell to the Temple Owls 194.025-194.525 Saturday night at the Chow's Winter Classic Cup.
Maddie Diab continues her domination on the floor, earning her second 9.900 of the season. Freshman Hannah Loyim also continues to impress, earning or tying a career high on every event. Loyim topped her scores from the previous meet on vault and beam, while tying her bars score and making her floor debut. Josie Bergstrom and Loganne Basuel also earned career highs tonight, with Bergstrom's coming on vault and Basuel's on beam.
Vault
Iowa State got off to a strong start in the meet's first event, with two gymnasts – Josie Bergstrom and Emilie Hong– scoring 9.825 on vault. Bergstrom's score was a new career best. Makayla Maxwell followed close behind with a 9.800. Kelsey Boychuck added a 9.800 while Ariana Orrego rounded out the scoring with a 9.775 from the lead-off spot. As a team, the Cyclones scored a 48.975 on vault, four-tenths higher than a week ago.
Bars
The Cyclones scored a 48.775 on bars, led by a 9.800 from Loganne Basuel. Maxwell, along with Laura Cooke, each notched a 9.775 on the event while Ana Palacios (9.725) and Hannah Loyim (9.700) rounded out the scoring.
Floor
Iowa State closed out the meet with a 48.175 on floor. Maddie Diab led the team with her second consecutive 9.900 while Andrea Maldonado followed closely behind with a 9.850. Kelsey Boychuk scored a 9.750, Kaia Parker earned a 9.625, and Laura Cooke scored a 9.050 to round out the scoring.
Beam
Basuel's night continued with a career-high 9.825 while Meixi Semple matched that to lead ISU on beam. Loyim, on her third event of the evening, contributed a 9.775. Sophia Steinmeyer (9.750) and Palacios (8.975) rounded out the scoring as Iowa State posted a 48.100 on the event.
All-Around
Hannah Loyim was Iowa State's lone all-arounder, earning a score of 38.250. She earned career highs on vault, beam, and floor, and matched her career high on bars.
