FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Iowa State opened its weekend at the Razorback Invitational with some strong performances in the multi-events, and some good work in the field events.
Led by assistant coach Kurtis Brondyke, Iowa State was back in the multi-events for the first time since the 2019 outdoor season on Friday at the Tyson Track Center. In the pentathlon, Syndey Willits made her multi-events debut, with the freshman placing 10th with a score of 3,478 points. The highlight of her day came in the high jump, as she cleared a personal best 5-3 3/4 (1.62m).
In the men's heptathlon, Thai Thompson had a big finish to the day in the high jump to set himself up for a promising Saturday in the final three events. The Johnston native and UNI transfer is in ninth place with 2,883 points after finishing his day with the third-best high jump effort among the competitors, clearing 6-4 3/4 (1.95m). He also had a solid outing to open the day in the 60-meter dash, clocking in at 7.12 seconds.
In the women's weight throw, Emily March bounced back from a foul-out last weekend in the weight throw at the Cyclone Open with a personal best, taking eighth place with a best throw of the day of 57-6 1/4 (17.53m).
