AMES, Iowa – The cross country season hits its most crucial stage tomorrow as the Iowa State cross country teams head to the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships Midwest Regional, hosted by Missouri at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course. The women's 6K goes off at 11 a.m., with the men's 10K starting at Noon.

The top two teams from each region will advance to next Saturday's NCAA Cross Country Championships at Oklahoma State. On Saturday, 13 at-large qualifying teams from across the country will be announced. Once all the team qualifiers for the NCAA Championships have been decided, the top four individuals from each regional on a non-advancing team along with two at-large individuals chosen by the NCAA Cross Country Subcommittee will move on as well.
The Midwest Regional also serves as the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series meeting between the Cyclones and Hawkeyes. The cross country programs will be looking to continue the momentum established by the fall sports back in September, with victories from football, soccer and volleyball currently seeing ISU ahead 7-0.
The No. 27 Iowa State men battled their way to a strong second place finish at the Big 12 Championships, edging out then-No. 23 Texas by two points. While getting a top-two team spot will be challenging with No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 6 Tulsa in the field, the Cyclones will still be looking to continue their positive momentum. In difficult conditions at the Big 12 Championships two weeks ago, ISU saw Ezekiel Rop, Gable Sieperda and Chad Johnson all get All-Big 12 honors. Rop's fourth-place effort was particularly impressive after a disappointing showing at Wisconsin last month. Further down the lineup, the Cyclones will be hoping the continued strong performances of Kelvin Bungei and Silas Winders carry into Columbia, Missouri.
The Iowa State women will be ready to roll again after a third-place outing at the Big 12 Championships. The Cyclones are third in the Midwest Region rankings, with national No. 3 Oklahoma State and No. 30 Northwestern both ahead of them. Dana Feyen and Madelynn Hill continue to lead the Cyclones, both earning All-Big 12 at the conference championships two weeks ago. Kiki Connell has continued her breakout season, as she just missed out on All-Big 12 honors with her 16th place run at Big 12 XC but has continued to move up the ISU pecking order as the weeks have gone along.
