AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team is one of just three schools nationally with three singles players and three doubles teams ranked in the Division I ITA Collegiate Tennis National Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point, released Wednesday at the conclusion of the fall season. The other schools are North Carolina and Texas A&M.
Ange Oby Kajuru and Chie Kezuka advanced to the ITA National Fall Championships and will enter the spring season ranked No. 17, the top ranking by any pair in school history. The duo went 6-2 in the fall, which included winning the ITA Central Region title.
Two other pairings were ranked inside the top 40, led by No. 39 Kajuru and teammate Miska Kadleckova. Kajuru and Kadleckova went 3-2 in the fall when playing together, earning wins against No. 11 and No. 54 teams. Kezuka and Thasaporn Naklo were 2-1 during the fall and are tied for No. 40.
In singles play, Naklo went 8-2 during the fall season to finish ranked No. 57. Naklo qualified for the NCAA Singles Tournament in 2021-22.
Sophomore Anna Supapitch Kuearum had a breakout fall and is ranked for the first time in her career. Kuearum is ranked No. 80 after going 10-3 during the fall campaign. She was 4-1 against Big 12 opponents, including a three-set win against No. 89 Kristina Novak of Oklahoma State.
Sofia Cabezas enters the rankings for the Cyclones at No. 114 after finishing 8-5 and picking up a win over the No. 68 player.
Five of the seven players on the current roster have been ranked in singles in their careers, while six of the seven players have earned doubles rankings.
