AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State wrestling team opens its 2022-23 season with three duals at the inaugural Battle in the River City Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla. The Cyclones start the day with Little Rock and Campbell before closing out the trip with a top-15 battle against No. 12 Wisconsin.Â

CARR MOVES TO 165
David Carr will move up a weight class from 157 to 165 this season. Carr, a 2021 national champion and three-time All-American at 157 pounds, will be one of three former national champions in the 165-pound weight class this season.
NEW FACES
Iowa State has 21 newcomers on the roster this season, including 19 freshmen. Five of those freshmen made the trip to Florida this weekend in Evan Frost, Casey Swiderski, Jacob Frost, Paniro Johnson and MJ Gaitan.
Iowa State reloaded during the offseason and brings in the No. 2 recruiting class in the nation according to MatScouts. The class is headlined by three top 20 recruits nationally (No. 3 Casey Swiderski, No. 14 MJ Gaitan, No. 19 Manny Rojas).
