CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - A grand slam off the bat of Mikayla Ramos in the fourth inning powered Iowa State (2-0) past Nebraska (1-2) Saturday morning inside the UNI-Dome, 7-3.
While Ramos' bases-clearing homer proved to be the difference, ISU also saw a two-hit, two-RBI outing from Camille Marin. The Cyclones made the most of their opportunities with base runners on, stranding only five runners compared to Nebraska's nine.
Iowa State started the day fast, loading the bases before Camille Marin hit a ground-rule double down the left-field line to plate two. Angelina Allen then advanced home on a passed ball to give the Cyclones a 3-0 lead after the opening frame.
Nebraska would capitalize on four walks to tie the game at 3-3 in the second inning.
Ramos' 15th-career home run, a grand slam, gave ISU the lead again in the top of the fourth.
Karlie Charles entered the circle in relief of Ellie Spelhaug in the second inning with the game tied and the bases loaded. Charles (1-0) forced a pop-fly to get out of the jam and proceeded to toss 5.1 scoreless innings to earn the win.
Nebraska starter Kaylin Kinney (0-1) wore the loss in the circle for the Huskers.
