FORT WORTH, Texas –Emily Ryan set a new single-game school record with 17 assists and Ashley Joens dropped a season-high 32 points as No. 9 Iowa State (21-3, 10-2 Big 12) rolled to its fifth-straight league win and 10th of the season as it swept TCU (6-15, 2-10 Big 12), 93-70. Iowa State also tied its school-record with 19 3-pointers en route to its 21st win on the year, giving Iowa State its best 24-game record to begin a season in program history.
Ashley Joens netted a her 13th 30-point outing of her career with 32 points and 14 rebounds for her 43rd career double-double. With 14 rebounds on the afternoon, Joens passed Megan Taylor (966) to move into fourth all-time in career rebounds with 974.
Ryan put together one of her best performances of the year with her fifth-career double-double with 14 points and a school-record 17 assists.
Lexi Donarski (16), Maggie Espenmiller-McGraw (11) and Morgan Kane (13) reached double-figures, giving Iowa State five in double figures for the seventh time this season.
How It Happened
Iowa State and TCU started off hot with both teams shooting over 50 percent in the opening quarter. The Horned Frogs rattled off a 7-0 run to close out the first quarter, jumping out to a 21-19 lead.
The Cyclones earned a little cushion against the Horned Frogs thanks to a 10-0 run capped by a layup by Beatriz Jordão off an inside pass from Ryan to give Iowa State its largest lead of the game, 42-32. The Cyclone defense held TCU scoreless for 4:12, before allowing a pair of freebies to end the quarter with an eight-point advantage, 42-34. Ashley Joens and Donarski paced the Cyclones in the opening half, each reaching double figures with 11 points.
The third quarter was all Ashley Joens as the senior tallied 13 points and off 5-of-6 shooting and hauled in three boards. Ryan showcased her masterful distribution abilities, dishing seven dimes alone in the third quarter, helping the Cyclones extend their lead to 15, 69-54.
TCU and Iowa State would shoot lights out in the fourth quarter, but it was the Cyclones who could not be stopped, jumping out to a 20-point lead it would not relinquish, 90-73.
