DENVER, Colorado – The Iowa State gymnastics team (1-4, 1-1 Big 12) fell to the No. 12 Denver Pioneers (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) 195.775-196.850.
The Cyclones saw their best performance of the season on vault and matched their best on beam. Eight gymnasts earned scores of 9.800 or better to propel the team to their second-best overall score of the season.
Makayla Maxwell earned her second 9.900 of the season on vault, her fourth straight score of 9.800 or above. This is the Cyclone's seventh 9.900 so far this season. Iowa State also saw six season high and five career high scores on the night. Loganne Basuel's season high 9.875 on bars is the highest score the team has seen on the event thus far.
Vault
Iowa State were dominant on vault once again, scoring a season high team score of 49.225. Makayla Maxwell led the team with her second 9.900 of the season, picking up the even win. She was closely followed by Josie Bergstrom who earned a new career high with a score of 9.875. Kelsey Boychuk picked up a new season high with a 9.850 and was followed by Emilie Hong with a 9.825. Kaia Parker rounded out the scores with a 9.775, setting a new season high.
Bars
The Cyclones began their night on bars, earning a team score of 48.925. Loganne Basuel led Iowa State on bars with a season high 9.875. Laura Cooke and Ariana Orrego followed with matching scores of 9.825, both tying their career highs. The scoring was finished up by Ana Palacios with a 9.725 and Hannah Loyim with a 9.675.
Beam
Iowa State matched their season high team score on beam, scoring a 48.925. Loganne Basuel once again led the team, scoring a 9.850 to earn a career high. She was followed by Meixi Semple with a 9.800 and Sophia Steinmeyer with a 9.775. Seinmeyer's score was a season high. Kelsey Boychuk and Hannah Loyim rounded out the scoring for the Cyclones, both earning scores of 9.750. Boychuk's score was also a season high.
Floor
The Cyclones earned a team score of 48.700 on the floor. Laura Cooke led Iowa State with a score of 9.825, her fourth floor routine of the season to score above a 9.800. Maddie Diab and Rachel Wilke both earned scores of 9.775, and Kelsey Boychuk was close behind with a 9.675. Hannah Loyim finished the scoring with a career high 9.650.

The Cyclones have back-to-back quad meets next weekend, first heading to the GymQuarters Invitational to take on Southeast Missouri State, Lindenwood, and Illinois State. The meet will take place in St. Charles, Missouri on Friday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. They will wrap up the trip in Dekalb, Illinois where they will face Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, and Central Michigan at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20.
