Iowa State Claims Victory at NIU Quad Meet

DEKALB, Illinois – The Iowa State gymnastics team (7-4, 1-1 Big 12) scored a 196.275 to defeat Central Michigan (196.125), Northern Illinois (195.500), and No. 25 Western Michigan (194.050).
The Cyclones earned season high scores on both bars and beam, which pushed them to their second highest total score of the year. Ariana Orrego scored a career high 9.925 on bars to tie for the event win. Orrego is the 18th gymnast in school history to earn a 9.925 on bars, her score is the 39th on the event. Maddie Diab earned her fifth score of 9.900 or higher this season, following up her 9.950 from the previous meet.
Bars
The Cyclones set a new season high on bars, earning an event score of 49.175. Ariana Orrego led the team with a career high 9.925 to tie for the event win. Loganne Basuel closely followed with a 9.875 to tie her season high. Laura Cooke earned a 9.825 and Hannah Loyim scored a 9.800. Ana Palacios rounded out the scores with a 9.750.
Vault
Iowa State earned a score of 49.125 on vault, led by a trio of 9.850s. Kaia Parker, Josie Bergstrom, and Emilie Hong all earned the score, with Parker's being a career high. Kelsey Boychuk followed with a 9.800, and Makayla Maxwell rounded out the scoring with a 9.775.
Floor
The Cyclones posted a total score of 49.000 on floor, led by a 9.900 from Maddie Diab. Andrea Maldonado was close behind with a score of 9.850, and Alondra Maldonado earning a career high 9.800. Rachel Wilke scored a 9.775, and Ariana Orrego posted a 9.675 to finish out the scores.
Beam
Iowa State scored a season high 48.975 on beam. Josie Bergstrom led the team with a career high 9.850 to tie for the event win. Hannah Loyim was right behind with a 9.825. Kelsey Boychuk and Sophia Stienmeyer both earned 9.775s and Loganne Basuel finished the scoring with a 9.750.
