AMES, Iowa – Makayla Maxwell has been named a Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association Second Team All-American on vault, the association announced Thursday. Maxwell finished the regular season with a 9.915 National Qualifying Score (NQS) on the event, tied for 15th in the nation.
Student-athletes with the top eight NQS for the regular season (with ties), for each event plus the all-around earned All-America honors. Second team All-America honors are earned by student-athletes ranked Nos. 9-16 (with ties) in the NQS.
Maxwell is Iowa State's third gymnast in the last three years to earn All-America honors.
The Las Vegas, Nev. native was one of 11 gymnasts nationally to earn a perfect 10.000 on vault this season and tallied six scores of 9.900 or higher on the event, including four straight to end the regular season.
Maxwell received Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week honors once this season and was an All-Big 12 performer on vault. The junior finished second at the Big 12 Championships after posting a 9.950.
Iowa State is back in action against Western Michigan in the NCAA Auburn Regional Wednesday, March 30 at 3 p.m.
