Gutschewski's 63 Breaks Iowa State's Rookie Scoring Mark At Colleton River Collegiate

BLUFFTON, S.C. – Luke Gutschewski fired an Iowa State-freshman-record 63 in the final round of the Colleton River Collegiate today to pace the Cyclone men's golf team to an eighth-place finish.
Gutschewski was simply on fire, tallying nine birdies and no bogeys in his 9-under round today. It was the second-lowest 18-hole score overall in the history of Cyclone golf (Nick Voke, 61 in 2017).
In the addition of Gutschewski's stellar round, Iowa State had counting scores of 67 (Ricky Costello), 69 (Jake Slocum) and 70 (Lachlan Barker) en route to a sizzling 19-under 269 on the final day, the second-lowest 18-hole team score in school history. It was the low round of the tournament.
The Cyclones jumped three spots on the leaderboard to finish at 860 (298-293-269). Georgia Southern won the team title at 834.
Gutschewski rebounded from an opening-round 80, going 10-under in the final 36 holes to finish in a tie for 18th at 214. Barker tied for 15th at 213, posting rounds of 69-74-70.
Costello saved his best for the final round, carding a season-low 67 to help him tie for 23rd at 215. Costello had a pair of eagles in the last round, scoring 3s on two par 5s (No. 7 and No. 14).
The Cyclones will be back on the links, March 27-29 at The Hootie at Bulls Bay, March 27-29.
