Key Storylines
- Iowa State was victorious in its midweek rivalry contest against Iowa on Tuesday. The Cyclones fended off a late rally from the Hawkeyes to win, 5-4, and clinch the 2021-22 Cy-Hawk Series in front of a record crowd (1,450).
- Last weekend, ISU was swept by No. 1 Oklahoma in Norman. The Cyclones dropped a tough series opener, 6-4, before falling, 9-0 (5 Inn.) in the next two games.
- The Cyclones are no strangers to playing in close games this season. Sixteen of ISU's games have been decided by two runs or less. The Cyclones are 5-11 in such games, including 4-6 in games decided by one run. Iowa State has left the tying or winning run stranded in scoring position in the final inning of three of those 10 losses and has lost via walk off three times.
- Kasey Simpson is leading the Cyclones in hitting over the last five games with a .333 average. She has a hit in three-straight games and was responsible for ISU's only hit in games two and three against OU.
- Carli Spelhaug, who is 42-of-42 on stolen base attempts in her career, is the only active Division I player with a perfect stolen base percentage (min. 40 attempts).
- Spelhaug is averaging 1.11 runs per game (14th nationally). She is one of two players in program history to score 50+ runs in a season twice in her career.
- Freshman Angelina Allen has been a valuable addition for the Cyclones in the top third of the order this season. She is hitting .312 on the year and her 43 hits are second among Big 12 freshmen.
- After a hot start to the season, Mikayla Ramos struggled at the plate to begin Big 12 play. The senior has been more productive as of late, however, hitting .308 with four doubles over the last 10 games.
- Saya Swain is one of 11 pitchers in the nation to log two games with 16+ strikeouts this season and is averaging 9.5 strikeouts per seven innings (32nd nationally).
- ISU has hit 73 doubles this season, the 15th-most nationally.Â
