FORT WORTH, Texas – Iowa State (8-6, 0-1 Big 12) dropped the match to TCU (6-7, 1-1- Big 12) in four sets (26-24, 16-25, 19-25, 18-25) on Saturday afternoon. Two Cyclones tallied 10 or more kills in the matchup.
Maya Duckworth and Eleanor Holthaus hit in double figures with Holthaus leading the team with 12 and Duckworth following with 10. Holthaus tallied the 65th game of her career with double-digit kills and freshman Duckworth solidified the eighth of her young career. Holthaus is now one 10-plus kill match away from tying the sixth-most in program history.
Alexis Englebrecht led the blocking effort with one solo and seven block assists as the Cyclones tallied 12.0 on the match.
SET ONE
A kill by Solei Thomas put the Cyclones on the board to start. Duckworth fired off two kills on three swings as she made the return to her home state of Texas. The Cyclones pushed on with a hitting percentage of .385 while TCU totaled four attack errors, leading to call a timeout. Iowa State continued hitting over .300 while TCU tallied additional errors. The Horned Frogs then hit a 5-0 scoring run to get their first lead at 17-16. Both sides squared each other up eight times to follow before a setter kill by Jaden Newsome gave the Cyclones the advantage in the match by a score of 26-24.
SET TWO
Duckworth continued firing away, getting her fifth kill to tie things early at 5-5. ISU and TCU kept an even battle up through a tie at 10s before TCU grabbed the next seven points on account of four Cyclone attack errors and the Horned Frogs hitting over .400. TCU pressed on to win the set 25-16 as they finalized a set hitting percentage of .409 with 12 kills.
SET THREE
Holthaus matched Duckworth with six kills to tally the first point of the set. Duckworth slammed another down at 5-3 as the Cyclones kept their lead before TCU matched ISU at 11-11. TCU took the lead at 16-15, but Iowa State blockers kept the Cyclones in it while each team's advantage kept within one. The Horned Frogs beat the Cyclones to 20 points while holding ISU to .094 hitting in the set. TCU pulled away with the 2-1 match lead by a score of 25-19.
SET FOUR
Holthaus collected her 10th kill of the game while Duckworth approached double digits with her ninth early in the frame to trim into TCU's lead at 6-5. TCU then hit their eighth kill of the set to break away, leading 12-6. Iowa State inched their way back as Duckworth and Perry again combined for a block to trim the lead to four at 16-12. Duckworth then solidified double-digit kills on ISU's next scoring play. TCU powered through, taking the set and the victory by a score of 25-18. The Horned Frogs held the Cyclones to .126 hitting while TCU ended the game just over .200 with .226.

Iowa State returns home, meeting Baylor on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. Reserved tickets will be $3 for Wednesday's ticket promotion. Iowa State mugs and free pizza will be given away to students at the match. The night also serves as International Students Night.
