AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (8-6, 0-1 Big 12) hosts No. 13 Baylor (11-2, 1-0 Big 12) this Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum. The match will be shown on ESPN2, the first of three nationally televised Iowa State matches this season.
Reserved tickets are currently included in a flash sale for only $1. The sale runs through the start of the match tomorrow. Iowa State currently ranks 13th nationally with an average attendance of 2,771.
Iowa State mugs and pizza will be given away to students at the match. Wednesday also serves as International Students Night.
LAST TIME OUT
Iowa State won the opening set against TCU on a setter kill by Jaden Newsome, her 35th of the season. Newsome is one of three setters in the conference with at least 35 kills and over 100 digs on the season.
Eleanor Holthaus hit 10-plus kills for the 65th time of her career, ending the TCU match with 12. The fifth-year senior's total of 12 now brings her 41 kills within breaking into the top five of the all-time ISU career kill list as she holds 1,293. Holthaus is one double-digit kill match shy of the sixth-most in program history.
Maya Duckworth joined Holthaus in double digits with 10 kills. The freshman extended her 10-plus kill match streak to five, the longest active streak by any Big 12 freshman while tying the longest by any player in the conference. Duckworth totals eight double-digit kill matches on the season, the highest by a Big 12 freshman.
Fellow freshman Kelsey Perry leads Big 12 freshman in blocks with 1.43 blocks per set. The season average ranks second overall among the conference.
Alexis Engelbrecht put up one solo and seven block assists versus TCU to contribute to the team's 12.0 total blocks. The junior's seven block assists came one shy of her career high. Nationally, Engelbrecht ranks 38th with 61 total blocks and 85th with 1.08 blocks per set.
BAYLOR
The Baylor Bears rank at No. 13 this week and enter the matchup on a 10-match win streak. The Bears were handed losses this season from fifth-ranked Minnesota and Pepperdine, who currently rank 20th nationally. Earlier this season against Evansville, Baylor set a Big 12 record as they ended the match on .677 hitting.
Baylor has held opponents to .153 hitting this season to lead the conference. Fifth-year senior and Texas A&M transfer Mallory Talbert also currently leads the Big 12 with a hitting percentage of .447 while Kara McGhee leads the conference in blocks with an average of 1.60 per set.
Baylor freshman Allie Sczech has hit over .300 six times through 12 matches as she enters Wednesday's action on a two-match double-digit kill streak.
