AMES, Iowa – Christy Johnson-Lynch has announced the addition of Layna Waselewsky to the volleyball team.
"We are thrilled to add Layna to our roster," Johnson-Lynch said. "We were looking to add depth to our defensive group, and Layna is exactly what we were looking for. She is driven, a great student-athlete, a wonderful young woman and has the potential to be an exceptional defensive player and passer. We are excited to help her continue her development and confidence over the next three years."
Waselewsky is a libero/defensive specialist transferring from Eastern Michigan. The Ada, Mich. native will be a sophomore in the 2026 season.
In 2025 as a freshman, Waselewsky put up career highs of 33 digs and 10 assists in the same match for her first double-double. Through the season, the defensive specialist totaled 210 digs, 46 assists and nine aces in 80 sets. Seven matches resulted in 10-plus digs including three over 20.
Waselewsky earned a MAC Defensive Player of the Week honor and was placed on the NCAA Rotation of the Week at libero following performances of 33 and 23 digs to average 6.22 digs per set on the week. Her 33 digs was the most by a MAC freshman in the 2025 season.
