MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – No. 22 Iowa State (22-5, 12-4 Big 12) reverse swept West Virginia (15-13, 3-13 Big 12) on the road, picking up the season's ninth road win of the season and fifth in Big 12 play. ISU remains perfect at 5-0 in five set matches.
After falling in the first two sets 19-25 and 20-25, Iowa State turned things around taking the third 25-21 and fourth 25-17. The Cyclones never gave up, winning the fifth 15-10.
Four Cyclones ended with double-figure kills, led by Nayeli Ti'a with 19, her third-straight match as many. Lilly Wachholz had crucial kills and totaled 13 at .333 hitting on the night, while Alea Goolsby (10) and Tierney Jackson (10) also ended in double figures. Ti'a and Goolsby had themselves double-doubles as Ti'a had 10 digs and Goolsby had a career-high 13.
Rachel Van Gorp performed to match No. 32 in a row with double-figure digs, saving 15 attacks from hitting the floor. Van Gorp also had five assists and three aces. Abbi Brenizer, making just her third-career start as a Cyclone, tied her career high with four aces.
Morgan Brandt crossed over 1,000 season assists with 35 on the night, while the star setter also had five digs.
SET ONE
The home team took the first four points before Maya Duckworth put down a kill to stop the run. ISU clawed back within one at 8-7 after three kills and an ace, and kept battling to tie the set at 10s. West Virginia kept with the narrow lead of 15-12 at the media timeout, and would reach 20 first as ISU held 16. WVU went on to win the opener 25-19.
SET TWO
The Mountaineers began with a 10-7 advantage, and again hit the media timeout ahead at 15-10. West Virginia hit 20 at 20-14 while hitting over. 300 in the set, and Iowa State would call its second timeout after WVU took the next point. Soon after, Iowa State hit a run of four featuring two Brenizer aces, causing a WVU timeout at 21-18. West Virginia took control out of the timeout, winning the second 25-20.
SET THREE
Brenizer kept up her dominant work at the service line sending over two more aces as ISU went ahead 4-0. Back-and-forth action followed, but Iowa State remained with the lead at 10-8 as Wachholz slammed down a kill. Wachholz then went back-to-back making it 12-9 and WVU pushed on to tie it at 13s. ISU fought back, building a lead of four (18-14) as Ti'a totaled kill No. 10. West Virginia came back within one late at 21-20, but after a Wachholz kill and ace the host called a timeout. Iowa State kept control, forcing a fourth at 25-21.
SET FOUR
Wachholz delivered two more kills as the fourth opened and ISU led 4-3. The Cyclones strung together a run of four to then make it 8-4 while West Virginia brought it back to a one-point set at 12-11. Iowa State remained with the lead of 15-12 at the media timeout, and following Van Gorp's third ace the score was put at 18-14 to prompt a WVU timeout. The ace came in the middle of a 6-0 run that made it 21-14, and the Cyclones carried on to keep the match going winning the set 25-17.
SET FIVE
Ti'a made it 1-1 with her 17th kill of the night, and followed that up with another. West Virginia flipped the lead at 5-4, but after Wachholz' 11th kill Iowa State retook the lead at 6-5. Wachholz sent over another to cause a Mountaineer timeout, and Iowa State reached eight first (8-6) as Wachholz remained on fire. Goolsby had two-straight aces to reach 14-9 and ISU sealed the win on a Ti'a kill at 15-10 following a successful challenge.

No. 22 Iowa State closes the Big 12 schedule next week hosting No. 13 Kansas Wednesday, Nov. 26 and Kansas State Saturday, Nov. 29. Christy Johnson-Lynch will be honored for her 400th win prior to the Kansas match, and Senior Day takes place vs. K-State.
