Cyclones Fall to Mountaineers on Sunday

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State (3-4-3) women's soccer fell 2-0 to the West Virginia Mountaineers (4-3-4) on Sunday afternoon. Sunday marked the eleventh straight victory over the Cyclones for West Virginia.

Offensively, West Virginia out-shot the Cyclones 14-9 and held a 9-3 corner advantage.

Senior goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz recorded a game-high six saves.

The Cyclones finish their five-match home slate with a 2-1-2 record and will be on the road until October 13th.

How It Happened

The Mountaineers out-shot the Cyclones 6-1 in the first 26 minutes of play.
- The Cyclones first shot on goal came from Mira Emma. Emma's shot was saved.
In the 28th minute, Jasmine Colbert tallied her first shot of the match.
- The shot by Colbert was saved by West Virginia.
Iowa State would record two more shots during the first half.
- Both shots were off target.
At halftime, the match was tied 0-0.
In the first five minutes of the second half, ISU recorded three shots.
- Two shots were blocked by WVU defenders and the third was off target.
West Virginia would tally three shots before finding the back of the net on their fourth second-half shot.
- The goal gave the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead.
Seven minutes later, in the 75th minute, West Virginia would net their second goal to go up 2-0.
Iowa State would only record one shot on goal in the final 18 minutes of play.

"I think we did almost everything right. We are in a place where we are still looking to get the tiny details right. That's what teams that are established do; they get the tiny details right. Today, I felt that we made too many mistakes. With that being said, I am really proud of how the team fought and battled today."
