AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (14-7, 5-5 Big 12) lost to Oklahoma (9-12, 2-9 Big 12) in straight sets Sunday by scores of 24-26, 23-25, 20-25.
OU was led by Taylor Preston with 21 kills while the Sooners outhit the Cyclones .218-.135.
Maya Duckworth led the Cyclones with eight kills while Alexis Engelbrecht led with five blocks. Setter Morgan Brandt had seven kills, a career high, at .417 hitting. Brooke Stonestreet led ISU with eight digs to pass the milestone of 900 on her career. Her total of 901 now ranks her at 22nd in Iowa State history.
SET ONE
Lilly Wachholz got the Cyclones off to a hot start, serving to three straight aces to make it 4-1, ISU. Iowa State held the advantage and went on to win a long rally to make it 19-14 while Maya Duckworth then hit her third kill hitting perfectly. OU fought back on a run of 7-1 to knot the score at 23, and followed to take the lead and set 26-24.
SET TWO
Duckworth got her fifth kill on 10 swings to make it 3-2 with ISU ahead to begin. Morgan Brandt notched back-to-back setter kills, her fourth total on just five attempts, as ISU remained up 7-5. Oklahoma again battled, taking the lead back and running ahead by four at 17-13. OU would hold the lead and go up in the match 2-0 with a set score of 25-23.
SET THREE
After a tie at 7-7, Oklahoma began to stretch a lead and take control of the set. The Sooners held the lead, holding Iowa State to a negative hitting percentage to take the win in straight sets 25-20.
