AUSTIN, Texas – Iowa State (17-9, 8-7 Big 12) fell to No. 5 Texas (20-4, 15-1 Big 12) in four sets by scores of 14-25, 26-24, 18-25, 20-25 Wednesday night.
Texas controlled the first set, but Iowa State answered in the second hitting at .250 to knot the match 1-1. The Longhorns would go on to take the next two sets to claim the four-set victory.
Annie Hatch led the Cyclones with 11 kills at .320 hitting while putting up two blocks. Jordan Hopp and Maya Duckworth brought in the next-highest total with eight. Hopp also led ISU blockers with five while Iowa State totaled 9.5 blocks on the night.
Brooke Stonestreet came one dig shy off the 1,000 dig milestone, with 14 on the match and 999 on her career.
SET ONE
Iowa State and Texas matched each other point for point up to 5-5 as Jordan Hopp sent over her second kill, while Texas then took a run of five. The Longhorns would go on to extend the advantage to 10 on their sixth block to lead 17-7. Texas ended the set at 25-14, hitting at .323 through the set.
SET TWO
Hopp tallied her third kill on four swings to put ISU up 2-1 to start, while the Cyclones remained within three (10-7) as Maya Duckworth put down the kill. Iowa State followed to take four straight to make it 13-11, Texas, as Morgan Brandt delivered the setter kill to cause Texas to call a timeout. Still hitting over .400, Hopp totaled her fourth kill to keep the Cyclones within two. Things would be tied at 15s, 22s and 23s, as ISU went on to take the lead at 24. The set would extend, but Iowa State tied up the match with an Alexis Engelbrecht kill, 26-24.
SET THREE
Lilly Wachholz made it 5-5 with her fifth kill, and Iowa State would remain within three of Texas (17-14) as the Longhorns totaled their 10th service error. Hopp continued to find the floor with her sixth kill at an efficiency of .417 making it 20-15, UT. Iowa State fought off two set points on Hatch's seventh kill and an ace by Brandt, but the Longhorns would seal it in their favor 25-18.
SET FOUR
Kills by Wachholz and Duckworth put the Cyclones on the board first, with the Cyclones beginning the set ahead 5-1 before Texas called the early timeout. Brandt and Hopp denied the kill to total 8.5 blocks for ISU, keeping the Cyclones ahead at 6-3. Iowa State led 12-7, with Texas going on to take a lead of 15-13 before Iowa State halted the home team's run. A successful ISU challenge would flip the score from 20-16 to 19-17, while Brandt's fourth setter kill would keep Iowa State within two (20-18). The Cyclones would battle, fighting off two match points but the Longhorns sealed the victory up 25-20.

Iowa State will now travel to meet No. 22 Houston Friday, Nov. 17, the first meeting between the Cyclones and Cougars since 1983.
