AMES, Iowa – Iowa State sophomore Ange Oby Kajuru earned Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week after going 4-0 on the opening weekend of conference play. It is Kajuru's third career honor and first this season.
Kajuru, a Tokyo, Japan, native and the nation's No. 51 player, cruised past both of her opponents as the No. 4 Cyclones started league action with a pair of wins.
Against then-No. 13 Kansas, Kajuru dominated on the No. 2 singles court with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Maria Titova for her first career clean sheet. The singles win came after a 6-1 win in doubles play alongside teammate Xinyi Nong.
Kajuru and Nong again won 6-1 on Sunday against K-State, running their winning streak to three matches. In singles action, she defeated Rosanna Maffei, 6-2, 6-2, on court two, improving to 12-1 in singles action this dual season.
Kajuru and the Cyclones return to action at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 24 at No. 14 Texas. The match will be televised on Longhorn Network.
