The Series
The Cyclones are 2-7 in nine total matches against the Horned Frogs. However, head coach Boomer Saia and his squad have taken the previous two matches against TCU, with a convincing, 6-1, victory at TCU in March of 2022.
Iowa State has a 2-29 record against Texas Tech all-time. The Lady Red Raiders took the match last year, 4-2, however the Cyclones went 2-0 in the two matches prior to that.
Player to Watch
Heading into her final two regular season home matches as a Cyclone, senior Thasaporn Naklo has had arguably one of the best careers in school history.
This weekend, Naklo has the opportunity to move into the program's top five in overall career wins, conference regular season career singles wins and win's at the No. 1 doubles spot.
The Bangkok, Thailand native has been stellar all season while playing at the No. 1 singles and doubles spot. She has gone 18-8 in singles and 20-6 in doubles this year with a combined total of nine wins against ranked opponents, tied for second most among her teammates.
Cyclone Tennis Quick Hit
With last week's match against West Virginia match getting postponed to next week, the Cyclones are still looking to set a new school record of five Big 12 regular season wins this weekend. The record setting win will not come easy as Iowa State is set to face off against two top-50 ranked opponents, however Iowa State is 30-7 in home matches under Saia.
In the Rankings
In this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Computerized Rankings, Iowa State slipped out of the nation's top-10 and sits at the No. 12 spot as it competes to host the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament. Naklo and Kajuru remained in the singles rankings at No. 56 and No. 74, respectively. In doubles, the Cyclones still have three teams represented in the rankings. Naklo/Anna Supapitch Kuearum check in at No. 52, Kajuru/Xinyi Nong follow close behind at No. 57, and Chie Kezuka/Kajuru round out the rankings at No. 62.
TCU moves into the rankings at No. 50 after previously not being ranked. No. 115 Mercedes Aristeguieta is the lone athlete ranked for the Horned Frogs.
After a loss to TCU last week, Texas Tech dropped four spots to No. 35. No. 122 Avelina Sayfetdinova is the only ranked singles player for the Lady Red Raiders and No. 36 Metka Komac/Sayfetdinova and No. 56 Cristina Tiglea/Komac are the two doubles teams that are ranked.
