Rop Runs to 1,500m School Record

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Ezekiel Rop set the 1,500-meter run school record at the Bryan Clay Invite Saturday night, setting a commanding time of 3:36.92 in the invitational 1,500m to mark two school records to go down on the weekend.
Rop went out to set the current third-fastest time in the NCAA and 11th-fastest in the world with the time as the junior placed as the fourth-fastest collegian and eighth overall in the invitational 1,500m event. The junior had a big kick to win his heat to close the race with the record-breaking time. His time is also .11 seconds off the 25th-fastest in all-time collegiate history.
Rop cut four seconds off his previous personal best of 3:40.96, moving from No. 8 in school history to take the top spot. Rop downs Nehemia Too's 2022 record of 3:39.15, improving on it by over two seconds.
At the Long Beach Invite, Rachel Joseph continued her dominant season, going out to the fifth-fastest time in school history in the first outdoor 400m race of her career. Joseph took the title in 53.72.
Darius Kipyego improved on his 800m time set of 1:48.75 yesterday with a season-best 1:48.58. Kipyego placed second at the Long Beach Invite while Tyler Carreon placed ninth with 1:53.37.
The Long Beach Invite closed with the women's 4x400m relay team of Bria Barnes, Zakiyah Amos, Rachel Joseph and Makayla Clark combining for a time of 3:36.80, just over a second off their school record of 3:35.58 set earlier this season.
The Cyclones will be back in action next Saturday, April 22 for the Musco Twilight hosted by Iowa.
