AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's 2023 gymnastics recruiting class has been ranked as the 12th best by College Gym News. The class is highlighted by one four-star prospect and a pair of three-star recruits among a class of six total.
The Cyclones are the second-highest Big 12 team in the rankings, sitting two spots behind Oklahoma, who is coming off a Four on the Floor finals appearance.
The College Gym News Recruit Ratings is a first-of-its-kind rating system for collegiate gymnastics recruits. Individual ratings are devised by combining "score points" with "video review points" for a total of 25 per event and 100 overall. Five stars are awarded to recruits that earn at least 78 points, with 4-star recruits earning between 63 and 77 points and 3-star recruits receiving at least 48. Gymnasts are classified as "Not Rated" due to insufficient videos, lack of competition scores over the previous two years, or an overall point total below 48.
The recruiting service uses a ranking that is calculated on each committed recruit's total points from the system. For athletes who did not receive a rating, their score points total is used instead. In order to maintain a balance between the quality and quantity of a class, higher point totals are weighted more heavily in our formula than lower point totals.
