MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The Iowa State swimming and diving team (3-5, 0-2 Big 12) suffered two close losses in their three-team meet contest against West Virginia (2-3, 1-1 Big 12) and Villanova (4-3-1, 2-0 Big East).
Kate Mitchell was a bright spot for the Cyclones, winning 3-meter diving with a score of 291.30. It's the second meet in a row where Mitchell has broken a score of 290 in the event after setting a PR of 294.10 against TCU.
Joscelyn Farner was the highest scoring Cyclone in 1-meter diving, securing a zone diving cut score of 268.55 that earned her third place.
Brinley Horras earned two third-place finishes in both the 1650 free and the 500 free for the Cyclones. Her efforts secured six points, moving Horras up to No. 18 on the all-time points leaderboard with 548 points across her career.
Freshman Emma Kuhn set a new PR of 56.28 in the 100 backstroke that earned her third place in the event. Kuhn was one tenth of a second from setting a new PR in the 200 backstroke later in the meet.
Fallon DeWitt earned second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:01.86.
Andie Quirke led the Cyclones in both the 50 and 100 free with third-place finishes in both events. Quirke was .09 seconds away from breaking her PR of 50.90 in the 100 free.
Mallory Miller (2:07.58) and Sydney Jackson (2:07.70) set new season highs in the 200 yard fly for Iowa State.
Iowa State will return to Beyer Pool on Friday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. to take on Big 12 rival Kansas. Senior day will take place on Saturday around 30 minutes prior to the start of the meet.
