AMES, Iowa – Rachel Van Gorp has been named Big 12 Rookie of the Week, the Big 12 announced Tuesday.
Van Gorp put together a week including 37 digs, nine kills, an ace and an assist, while totaling 71 receptions with just two errors (.972 percent). At No. 9 Kansas, Van Gorp led the match with 20 digs despite starting as an outside hitter. It was Van Gorp's third 20-plus dig match. The freshman averaged 4.11 digs per set through the week, the seventh best in the conference. Van Gorp also stretched her double-digit dig streak to five matches.
Van Gorp, who started the season as Iowa State's libero, transitioned into a front row hitter as ISU dealt with injury. The versatile Van Gorp has two double-doubles on the season, 235 digs at 3.51 per set, 39 kills, 34 assists and 21 aces. The rookie leads the team with her ace total.
Van Gorp earns her first Big 12 honor and is the 13th Cyclone to earn Big 12 Rookie of the Week.
