Cyclones Wrap Up Day 2 of Big 12 Match Play

HOCKLEY, Texas - The Cyclones wrap up the second day of Big 12 Match Play after tying with first-seeded and #2 nationally ranked Arizona State, and coming out on top of twelve-seeded TCU 3-2. The Cyclones are 1-1-1 in the tournament so far.

In the morning matchup, Luke Metcalf defeated Arizona State's Connor Williams with a score of 4&2, where he never relinquished the lead throughout the match. This win helped Metcalf improve to a 2-0 match record.

Zach May won his match 1UP against Preston Summerhays, where May also never gave up the lead through the entire match. Summerhays is the #1 ranked player on PGA Tour U's rankings.

Luke Gutschewski tied his opponent, Peer Wernicke. It was a very even fought match, where the two matched scores on 12 of the holes.

Paul Beauvy and Owen Sawyer were both defeated in their morning matchup.

In the afternoon matchup, Zach May defeated TCU's Jack Beauchamp with a score of 3&2, to improve to a 2-1 match record.

Owen Sawyer picked up his first match win of the tournament, defeating Charlie Wylie 1UP in a tight battle.

Luke Gutschewski won his match against Scott Roden 5&3 for his first match win.

Luke Metcalf and Paul Beauvy both came up short in their respective matches.

Iowa State will conclude Big 12 Match Play tomorrow, Wednesday Oct. 9 at 7:45 a.m.
