AMES, Iowa – Iowa State men's golf head coach Andrew Tank has announced the signing of Henry O'Keefe and Ben Wheeler. The pair will join the Cyclones for the 2026-27 season. Both players are ranked in the Top 75 in the Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings.
"We are excited to officially welcome Henry and Ben to our program," Tank said. "This duo is talented and well-coached. They both have the character traits we believe are crucial for success at Iowa State."
From Little Rock, Ark., O'Keefe currently attends Little Rock Christian Academy and is ranked No. 43 in the Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings. O'Keefe has led LRCA to back-to-back 5A team state championships, where he won the State Individual Championship in 2024 and tied for second with his younger brother, Hogan, in 2025. O'Keefe earned the 2025 ASGA Junior Player of the Year Award after winning the 2025 State Junior Amateur and Match Play Championships. O'Keefe currently holds a 70.50 summer golf average and has not carded a round above 72 in his two high school seasons. Henry's father, Jack, played college golf at Arkansas, and professionally for 10 years.
"At Iowa State, their facilities will allow me to be as good of an athlete as I am willing to work," O'Keefe said. "Everything is right in front of me, but it will depend on if I bring 100% every day. The staff and players around me will be like a family, and I am so excited to get to Ames! Coach Tank and Coach (Will) Pearson have given me an opportunity to compete, and that I am very thankful for. Can't wait to join Cyclone Nation!"
A Lee's Summit, Mo. native, Wheeler attends Summit Christian Academy, where he has won three straight Missouri State Golf Championships and finished in the Top 5 as an individual all three years. Ranked No. 62 in the Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings, Wheeler was the Individual District Champion in 2025 and tied the MSHSAA record for lowest 18-hole round on a par 72 with a 65. Ben's scoring average for the 2025 high school regular season was 69.60. Wheeler was a First Team All-State, All-District and All-Conference selection, as well as an Academic Scholar, each year of his high school career so far, while also being a two-time Christian Character Award winner. Outside of high school, Wheeler tied for first at the 2025 AJGA Roper Honda, finished runner-up in the 2024 Kansas Junior Amateur with a course record 63 in the final round, and tied for sixth at the 2024 PGA National High School Invitational.
"I chose Iowa State because the coaches and the campus are a great fit for me and for my future," Wheeler said. "I am most excited about competing at the next level with this program."
The Iowa State men's golf team returns to action in January, competing in the N.I.T in Tucson, Ariz., Jan. 26-27.
