AMES, Iowa – Iowa State took down UNI by a final of 180-116 in a fierce in-state dual meet Saturday to remain undefeated at home this season.
Head Coach Matt Leach was pleased with the performance from the Cyclones today. "With it being senior day, it was great to honor them with energy and effort we saw today out of everyone," Leach said. "With the first event we came out of the blocks and really set the momentum for the meet."
How it Happened:
The meet started with a podium sweep in the 400-medley relay with Emma Kuhn, Grace Swoboda, Carley Caughron and Andie Quirke finishing in first with a 3:48.78 time.
Corinne Guist took her third first-place finish of the season in the 1000 free, with Miray Abay in third.
The 100 back was dominated by the Cyclones, Kuhn placed first (57.01), Lili Neisser came in second (58.32), and Madi Dohrn in third (59.01).
Grace Swoboda took another win in the 100 breast, for the third time this season with a time of 1:04.98. Anja Peck followed in second (1:06.02) and Carli Poppen in third (1:07.37).
The 200 fly title was taken by Winter Craig, her fifth podium finish in this event this season.
Madi Dohrn secured the 200 backstroke victory, followed by Kuhn in second place and Fallon DeWitt in third.
Peck earned first in the 200 breaststroke with Abbi Crum as runner-up and Carli Poppen taking third.
"It was great to see the freshmen really step up today in their events," Leach said. "It's really great to see them improving throughout each meet."
The 500 free was swept by Guist for her second event win of the day with a 5:09.83 time.
Craig followed her 200 fly title winning her second event of the day with a 57.84 time in the 100 fly.
The Cyclones controlled the 3-meter diving event, with all competitors narrowly missing NCAA Zone Cuts. Maggie Bendell claimed first place with a score of 278.95, followed by Ally Blumenfeld in second with 271.60 and Kate Mitchell in third with 270.05.
Blumenfeld earned second place (264.65) in the 1-meter and Mitchell took third (256.80).
"As we move forward, we will face tough environments traveling, it's important we continue to cheer each other on and keep working as a family," Leach said.
