AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team is set to open the spring season this week as it travel to Palm Springs, California to compete in the Duel in the Desert, hosted by Kansas. The tournament begins on Thursday and lasts through Saturday.
The Cyclones look to build off their strong fall season, where the team tallied a 62-27 singles record and an 85-43 overall record. Senior Anna Supapitch Kuearum is starting the season as the 64th-ranked singles player in the country after finishing with an 8-3 fall singles record against top competition.
Along with Kuearum, Iowa State also returns sophomore's Ashlee Narker and Valeska San Martin Ramirez from last year's squad.
The Cyclones' five freshmen make up what was the No. 20 recruiting class in the country and second in the Big 12 entering the year. The five freshmen combined for an impressive 39-18 singles record in the fall.
Tournament Information
The tournament begins on Thursday and lasts through Saturday and will feature both singles and doubles action in a hidden dual format. The teams participating are Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and Arkansas.
