PRIMER: Iowa State Heads to Arkansas, Boston

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women and No. 17 men have a trio of meets on deck as the majority head to the Tyson Invite while members of the distance crew compete at the Valentine Invite and Leroy Russell III will run at the Eagle Elite Invite.

The men moved up four spots this week to No. 17 following performances that rank top 10 in the nation and in Iowa State history. Cam Jones improved his weight throw season best once again with a mark of 75-9 1/4 (23.09m) to move up to eighth in the nation, and Darius Kipyego put up the No. 9-ranked 800m performance in the nation with an indoor-best 1:46.56.

Emanuel Galdino reset his mile school record by over a second and a half in Boston with 3:54.23, while Devan Kipyego raced alongside him timing in .01 second after. The times are just off the collegiate all-time top 25 (3:54.15). Galdino and Kipyego currently rank at No. 15 and No. 16 in the nation. The duo holds the top four mile times in program history.

The men's and women's 800m squad both rank in the top 10 nationally, with the men overtaking the top spot and the women jumping to No. 10. Iowa State's top four men's 800 runners rank inside the top 26 in the nation. The average of the top four performances in each event are used to calculate national event group rankings.

Two weeks of indoor regular season remain before Big 12 Indoor Championships Feb. 28-March 1. Iowa State next takes on The Arkansas Qualifier and Iowa Open Friday, Feb. 21.
