Iowa State Classic, Saturday, Feb. 8
Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite, Saturday, Feb. 8
Events at the Iowa State Classic will begin at 10 a.m. with men's pole vault and women's weight throw, and are slated to continue through the men's 4x400m at 6:55 p.m. At the Scarlet and White Invite, mile sections for Galdino and Devan Kipyego are scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. CT. Galdino (3:55.84) and Kipyego (3:56.37) set the No. 1- and No. 2-fastest times in ISU history earlier this season.
The Iowa State men rank 21st in the nation this week, while six event groups rank in the top 10. The men's 800-meter squad of Galdino, Aman Thornton, Darius Kipyego and Dugion Blackman average 1:47.55 to rank second nationally. Four Cyclones who have gone sub-1:48 will run in the event at the Iowa State Classic looking to improve on their season times.
Said Mechaal, the previous mile school record holder, will compete in the event in Ames along with Sanele Masondo who will make his mile debut. Four Cyclones have broken four minutes so far this season to average 3:57.24, the eighth best in the nation. Iowa State is one of eight programs to have four or more go sub-four this season.
Both the men's weight throw and shot put squads rank in the top 10. Three of ISU's top 10 ranked program performers will compete in the weight throw and two in the shot put, led by Cam Jones who holds both school records.

Last week at the Razorback Invite and BU Terrier Classic, two school records went down. Makayla Clark first hit an indoor 800m best of 2:02.44 to take down the previous record set in 2017 before Maelle Porcher clocked 4:35.91 in the mile to break the record that stood since 1992. That brings the season total to five school records broken, joining the women's 600y (Clark), men's mile (Galdino) and heptathlon (Thai Thompson).
Next up, Iowa State heads back to Arkansas Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15 for the Tyson Invite.
