AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team opens its regular season on the road Friday morning against Minnesota. The Cyclones are coming off a strong fall campaign where they saw three players qualify for the ITA Sectional Championships and the pairing of Mari Paz Alberto Vilar and Stanislava Shulzhenko earn a berth in the NCAA Doubles Championships.

After going just 4-17 and 2-11 in Big 12 play in 2024, the Cyclones saw major improvement in year two under head coach Jaron Maestas in the 2025 spring season, going 11-11 and 5-8 in Big 12 play. Maestas and Co. will look for further improvement in 2026.

THE SERIES
This will be the 39th all-time showdown between the Cyclones and Golden Gophers, with Minnesota leading the all-time series 35-3. The Gophers have won the last 34 matchups against the Cyclones, with ISU's last win in the series coming in 1976. Minnesota came out on top 4-3 in last year's bout between the schools.

Iowa State opened the spring season at the Kansas Jayhawk Invitational, where it totaled a record of 16-12 across a three-day span.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Sophomore Julia Camblor will look to build on one of the best freshman seasons in school history. Camblor tallied six conference and 25 overall singles wins in her 2024-25 campaign, good for third and sixth in school history, respectively.
