MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Iowa State dropped a 5-2 decision to Minnesota Friday at the Baseline Tennis Club in the season opener for both schools.

Iowa State (0-1) jumped out to the lead with a come-from-behind doubles point clinch. After Minnesota (1-0) won a No. 1 doubles, the pairing of Suzanie Pretorius and Valeska San Martin Ramirez got ISU on the board with a 7-5 win at No. 3.

On court two in the deciding match, Julia Camblor and Ashlee Narker rallied from deficit to win, 7-5, and earn ISU the important doubles point.

The Cyclones extended their lead to 2-0 when freshman Alicia Dale cruised past Yinong Ma, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

Unfortunately for ISU, it was all Gophers after that as the home team took a win at No. 4 singles, followed by three-set victories on courts one, two and three to secure the victory.

Iowa State has a pair of home matches next weekend at the Iowa State Tennis Facility. The Cyclones host Wichita State on Saturday at noon and St. Thomas on Sunday at 11 a.m.
