AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team fell to Wichita State, 4-2 in its home opener Saturday afternoon.
In doubles, the Cyclones got out in front early, but were unable to close out the doubles point, falling 6-2 on both Court 2 and 3. A top 40 battle between No. 34 Mari Paz Alberto Vilar/Stanislava Shulzhenko and Wichita State's No. 24 Giorgia Roselli/Xin Tong Wang went unfinished.
In singles, Alicia Dale followed up her impressive victory at Minnesota with another dominant performance at the No. 6 spot, downing of Anne Knuettel, 6-1, 6-1. No. 124 Shulzhenko also took care of business against Kristina Kudryavtseva, 6-2, 7-5 to give the Cyclones a 2-1 lead in the match. However, the Shockers rallied off three straight victories to clinch the 4-2 team win.
The Cyclones are back in action at home Sunday at 11 a.m. against St. Thomas.
