Tailgate Tour Stops by Twin Cities

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - For Iowa State athletics department special project coordinator Ryan McGuire, Monday night's Cyclone Tailgate Tour stop at the Nicollett Pavilion was far from a one night stand. As fans gathered in the quaint and classical building and went out for a view of the river, the fifth stop on the Tailgate Tour was the culmination of six months of work.

"We contacted the Minneapolis chapter of the ISU Alumni Association and they gave us some ideas of what to hold this year's event," McGuire said. "One of the places they talked about was this pavilion. It worked out great."

More than 300 Iowa State Cyclones were in attendance to hear from ISU coaches Paul Rhoads, Greg McDermott and athletics director Jamie Pollard. In total, there were more than 50 members of the Cyclone traveling party. Iowa State tailback Alexander Robinson, who was back in his hometown was joined by teammates Carter Bykowski, Reggie Stephens and Marquis Hamilton to sign hundreds of autographs.

A contingent of Iowa State cheerleaders joined ISU Alumni Association director Jeff Johnson and his staff at the event. The Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau has also staffed every evening event.

Out along the river, children enjoyed the inflatable playground activities. It was with those children that Pollard originally created the tour.

"We wanted to make these events enjoyable for everyone in the family," Pollard said. "These young people are our future Iowa State students and Cyclone supporters."

Pollard ends each evening stop by inviting all the children to come up and join together shout out "Go Cyclones."

The day had begun with a lunch stop in Mason City where a good crowd got an opportunity to meet the coaches and listen to Rhoads articulate his vision for the Cyclone football program.
