Iowa State Director of Softball Operations Peter Suarez is entering his fifth season with the Cyclones. Suarez has been a tremendous asset to the program, assisting with team video, scouting reports, team travel and recruiting arrangements.
During his time with the Cyclones, his organization and diligence has been a critical part of the program's rise on the national stage. In 2021, Suarez was on the Iowa State staff that guided the greatest season in program history - culminating in the Cyclones' first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1988. Iowa State also advanced to its first-ever NCAA Regional Final in Columbia, Mo.
Suarez was with the Cyclones through a 2017 season that saw tremendous strides, as Iowa State won six of its last seven Big 12 games to finish fifth in the conference and advanced to the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla. Suarez was then kept on staff by new head coach Jamie Pinkerton, who arrived on campus in August of 2017.
Suarez was hired to Iowa State by then-head coach Jamie Trachsel from Stephen F. Austin, where he was an assistant coach for the Ladyjacks, specializing in infield defense, as well as hitting. Suarez was at Stephen F. Austin for two seasons following his graduation from Florida State University in May 2014 with a degree in Sport Management. Suarez also served as a student manager for the FSU softball program from 2012-14. With Suarez on staff, the Seminoles made it to the 2014 Women's College World Series, advancing past the Tallahassee Super Regional with a 2-1 series win over Michigan. The team was eliminated with losses against Oregon and Baylor and ended the campaign with an overall record of 55-9.
The Seminoles were highly successful over Suarez' first two years with the club as well, finishing with a 44-19 record in 2013 and posting a 47-16 mark in 2012.
"His personality, drive, commitment, skill set and character fit perfectly with us," Trachsel said. "He instantly makes us a stronger and more capable staff. It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome Pete into our Cyclone family."
The Miami, Florida native graduated from Immaculata-La Salle High School in 2010.
