Jesse Tupac joined the Iowa State volleyball staff as a graduate assistant in January 2014 after spending 2013 as a volunteer assistant coach at Loyola Marymount and working with USA Volleyball. Tupac’s role at Iowa State includes working with video and data analysis.
During summer 2014, Tupac served as technical coordinator for the USA Women’s National Team during the NORCECA World Championship Qualifier Tournament. The Americans went undefeated and qualified for the World Championships. He also served on the staff for the Men’s National Team at the NORCECA World Championship Qualifier during their gold medal match, which they won.
In June 2014, Tupac was technical coordinator for the Girls Youth National Team during the NORCECA World Championships Qualifiers in Costa Rica. The Americans won the silver medal, and qualification to its World Championship in summer 2015. He also served as the head coach of the Youth National A3 Training Program in Edmond, Okla.
Tupac spent the spring and fall 2013 NCAA season with head coach Tom Black and the Loyola Marymount University women’s volleyball program. Tupac assisted with the technical training of setters and middles, coordinating the video and data analysis, as well compiling scouting reports of opponents.
From February to August 2013 Tupac interned with the USA Women’s National Team and head coach Karch Kiraly. Tupac trained the setters while also working as a court coach and datavolley technical coordinator during the spring scrimmage schedule. Most recently Tupac has helped develop both the standard for the offensive tempo that the National Team has established as well as instituting a new way to scout opponent serve receive.
At the prep level Tupac coached 12 separate seasons at 4 different high schools in southern California. Leading his teams to numerous record seasons and league championships. Most notably his high school programs have twice reached the CIF quarter-finals, once the CIF semi-finals, and once reaching the CIF finals as well as a CIF State semi-final appearance. In one season he led one of his programs to a top 10 ranking in CIF Division 1.
At the club level Tupac has spent the last 7 years as a coach and administrator for nationally renowned Sunshine Volleyball Club. During his time as an administrator Sunshine has grown from 15 teams to its current slate of 23 teams and has twice (2011-2012 and 2012-2013) been the #1 club in the state of California in terms of USAV Junior Olympic bids earned as well as USAV Junior Olympic medals won. Sunshine recently was honored as one of the top 15 clubs nationally being recognized for its continual success at all levels of club play. As a coach for Sunshine, Tupac has found considerable success leading three 18′s teams to the USAV Junior Olympics and most recently winning the 18-National Bronze medal at the 2013 USAV Junior National Championships with his 18-South Bay team. Tupac also owns the Sunshine Volleyball Club record for most consecutive tournament wins winning 7 of 8 SCVA region tournaments in the 14′s division.
His players have been named HS All-Americans, 1st Team All-CIF and CIF Player of the Year awards, as well as numerous PrepVolleyball awards including: Senior Aces, Soph. 79 and top 25-Freshman nationally. Tupac has had over 60 former players go on to compete at the NCAA level and have garnered awards such as AVCA All-American, AVCA Player of the Year, NCAA Region Player of the Year, as well as winning numerous All-Conference awards and individual accolades.
As a player Tupac was a first team CIF standout for Adolfo Camarillo High School and was a member of the 2006 recruiting class for the men’s team at UCLA under legendary coach Al Scates. Tupac earned his degree from UCLA with a BA in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and is currently pursuing a Masters of Education at Iowa State.
Tupac also works as a coach for club program All-Iowa Attack, whose director is former Cyclone Rachel Hockaday. Tupac was an assistant coach for the All-Iowa Attack squad that won the National 17 Division at the Girls Junior National Championships in Minnesota in July 2014.
