Joe Resendez served as director of sports medicine for football at Iowa State for the 2025 season.
In his lone season in Ames, the Cyclones went 8-4 overall and 5-4 in Big 12 play.
Resendez played a significant role in Iowa State's trip to Dublin, Ireland to play in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. The Cyclones won the game against Kansas State as Resendez helped in moving the program's medical operation overseas for the game.
Resendez spent the previous three years as the head athletic trainer for the XFL/UFL, managing daily operation of the athletic training staff. He also oversaw strength and conditioning, nutrition and sports science initiatives. He was also the head of player health and performance for Slamball from 2022-24.
Prior to his time with the XFL, Resendez gained extensive experience in the NBA, working as the head athletic trainer for the Sacramento Kings from 2018-22. The stint in Sacramento came after working as assistant athletic trainer for the Los Angeles Clippers from 2010-18.
From 2007-10, Resendez was head athletic trainer and strength and conditioning coach for the Rio Grande Vipers of the NBA G-League.
The Brownsville, Texas, native earned his bachelor's degree in athletic training from UT-Pan American and his master's degree in health and exercise science from Louisiana Tech. He also has a post graduate certificate in sports performance analytics from Michigan.
